Who is Our Parish Nurse?
Cheri Miklas is the parish nurse at Benediction Lutheran Church. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Marquette University and completed her parish nurse training at Concordia University. She has over 30 years of experience in nursing within the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare system.
Blood Pressure Screening / Office Hours
- Blood pressure screening is offered on the second Sunday of every month between services in the parish nurse office in the Education Building.
- The parish nurse has office hours by appointment. The parish nurse can be reached at church at 414-463-9158 or you may leave a confidential message on her voicemail at 414-535-6865, mailbox #3243.
What Does the Parish Nurse Do Within the Congregation?
- Health Educator: The parish nurse provides health education to the congregation through newsletter articles, bulletin board displays, and classes.
- Health Counseling: The parish nurse provides individual, confidential counseling and education to parishioners regarding their health concerns. This counseling can take place in the parish nurse office at church, in parishioners' homes, in the hospital, or nursing home. It is wholistic nursing; ministering to the parishioners, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Referral Agent: The parish nurse can refer parishioners to physicians, community agencies, continued living facilities, and other services that are indicated by the parishioners' needs.
- Advocate: The parish nurse can act as an advocate for parishioners' needs with their physicians, hospital and nursing home staff, and other health care providers She can intervene, when requested by the parishioner, to ensure that needs are met.
Parish nursing is a ministry of care through which the healing presence
of Jesus Christ is revealed, to promote health and wellness of mind,
body, and spirit.
